From 6 years old I have been on stage. In high school you could find me in the Drama department. I went on to the University of Minnesota where my courses had everything to do with theater. I did summer stock plays and then performed at the professional Theater in the Round in Minneapolis. I was headed to Valencia College in California, a school for the dramatic arts when the Lord Jesus got a hold of my life. When He found me at the age of 18, I fell so in love with the Lord I truly "surrendered all." I sincerely thought part of my "conversion" would be to give up and "die" to my talents and love of drama, which I left at the Cross. Paul and I were married and we began to serve Him in the ministry. Those dramatic gifts were now used only for my children in home school, bedtime stories, and in a occasional youth group presentation. Then in Christian circles I was hearing about the use of "drama as ministry", teaching Biblical truths through "word pictures and dramatization.” During the 1980's our assembly had a lot of young people, 60 at one time of all ages. We created 3 separate "youth groups" and I was in charge of the middle group, 7 to 12 year olds. We wanted something to work on so I found a play at the public library. It was a wonderful story of a toymaker that I rewrote as a small musical with a theme of salvation. We opened during the Holiday season and it was a huge success. For 13 years I worked as a Drama and Speech teacher in an A.C.E. Christian School in Minneapolis. We won multiple awards for our platform presentations and One Act Plays. Whatever selection the students chose I always rewrote with more "enlightened" truth. These selections would go on to perform in National and International competitions.  They did so well not only for our quality of acting, set design and costumes, but also for content. Students that did not do well in academics flourished on the stage, and they saw the effects of the message they were proclaiming. Each student I worked with would see a deeper truth about characters they were portraying.

I have known for years of my wife's gift of drama. However, like many, I tended to think of it as something merely entertaining. The marvelous qualities of the Lord unveiled through the drama that He purposed in Himself and His "Theater" has been truly life changing for me.  Drama is God's chosen expression of Himself and His plan. All we need to do is to “Get in the Spirit of the Composer." That is something my wife has truly been able to do.
